Quinta do Lago
Quinta do Lago, villas in paradise
In Quinta do Lago, villa resort developers followed a master plan. From the start of development in
1972, right up to the present time, 5 star villas, apartments, hotels, for example, the exclusive Monte da Quinta Club, and the whole infrastructure of
the area has been strictly controlled. The result is an exclusive holiday resort that embraces the
natural environment, without exploiting it. The name translates as "Farm on the Lake" and
you will see why. Quinta do Lago's idyllic mix of scented pine forest, salt and freshwater lakes,
exotic flora and lush grassland gives it a unique appeal.
Villa rentals in Quinta do Lago
The villas of Quinta do Lago are as architecturally varied as they are exclusive, giving a marvelously
diverse feel to the landscape. Villas with secluded gardens and pools have been developed on large
plots, giving you a sense of freedom and space that is lacking in less thoughtfully planned resorts.
Valverde is a very smart development of luxury villas and apartments, situated alongside Quinta do Lago
and Pinheiros Altos and all accommodation is within easy reach of the plaza, shops and the tennis and
golf facilities.
All of our quinta do lago villas are well appointed and individually furnished
to a high standard. Visitors' testimonials speak of their satisfaction
with the accommodation on their return and are eager to re-book. The whole resort is protected by
24-hour security patrols, so that you and your family can really relax and enjoy yourselves.
The natural environment
Although Quinta do Lago is unquestionably one of the most sophisticated holiday destinations in the
Algarve, part of its charm is the resort's abundant natural beauty. As with
Vale do Lobo, Dunas Douradas, Vilamoura,
Vale do Garau and Almancil, the 3 kilometre stretch of golden beach, rugged
sandstone cliffs and ocean vista are focal points in the resort's physical geography. But there is much
more.
Almost 2000 acres of pine forest and the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve are home to some remarkable
species of plant and wildlife. Away from the lively sporting
activities, the peace and serenity found in these areas provides a haven for nature lovers. In the
wetlands and lagoon of Ria Formosa can be found many beautiful
birds, some of which are rare and protected species. At sunset, the bridge across the estuary that
takes you down to the beach really is the stuff of picture postcards.
All kinds of sport
Quinta do Lago is the ideal place for those who want to get physical and there is always plenty to do.
Renowned for its water sports, the Atlantic coastline and the picturesque woodland lakes give you ample
opportunity for activities such as water skiing, sailing and windsurfing. Back on dry land, there is an
equestrian centre and the David Lloyd Tennis Club, in addition to
squash courts, a health club and clay pigeon shooting. Of all sports the Algarve is perhaps best known
for its suburb golf facilities and Quinta do Lago is probably the largest
golf resort in Europe with no less than four 18 hole courses.
Shopping, restaurants and nightlife
Quinta do Lago has two shopping centres, selling a whole range of items. Visitors enjoy the atmosphere,
but local people also meet up in these venues to shop and socialise. You will recognise a few
international names, although there will be some new ones to explore. If you spend a few hours
shopping, you will doubtless find the fashionable restaurants, cafés and bars very welcoming.
Close by, Vale do Lobo, Almancil, Loule and
Faro also have a comprehensive range of shops and exclusive boutiques, so you won't run out of
opportunities for retail therapy.
If you enjoy eating and drinking in the quiet seclusion of your villa, fresh fish, meat, local
produce and wine is always available, in addition to the other foodstuffs you are likely to need.
There is plenty of choice for eating out in the Algarve and Quinta do Lago is
no exception, with an excellent range of local and international gourmet cuisine easily accessible if
you don't want to go further afield. For a casual Portuguese style set menu, you might like to visit
the restaurant opposite the Post Office in the nearby older town of Almancil
- look for the sign "Nosso Café".
Night owls are well catered for here, there are 4 nightclubs. The presence of the odd celebrity adds to
the glamour of these vibrant hot spots, but if you want more, the clubs and casinos of Vilamoura,
Quarteira and Albufeira are easily accessible by car.
