Vale do Lobo holiday F.A.Q.
Common questions about holidays in Vale do Lobo answered.
Do I have to book a golfing holiday to play on the 2 golf courses?
No, you can choose a villa in Vale do Lobo to rent
quite independent of your golf arrangements. At Sun-hat, we can arrange your villa and you can book
golf at the Ocean or Royal Golf Courses directly or through a local company we can recommend. Please
feel free to contact us, if you would like to discuss this option. There is a fantastic range of
links and inland golf to be enjoyed, in addition to these two magnificent and challenging courses, as
you will see if you consult the map of the Algarve.
Where can I play tennis?
The Vale do Lobo Tennis Academy is a top class international tennis club within the resort,
which caters for all players. There are programmes for Adults, Juniors and Mini-tennis, intensive or
semi intensive or you can simply book a court and play. Private lessons are also available. The Club
includes 14 courts, swimming pool, fitness gym, sauna, steam room, tennis café
and bar/restaurant. Please contact us for rates and booking
information.
What is the beach like in Vale do Lobo?
Fine golden sand; ideal for sun-bathing and a land base for the numerous water sports on
offer. As on many beaches of its kind, there is no shade so you may want to take a parasol or hire a
beach tent for some protection from the sun’s strongest rays. You can take lunch at one of the
eateries at the "Praca", take a picnic or maybe pay a visit to Marias or Julias -
restaurants along the beach.
Is there a crèche or children's club?
Yes. The Penguin Club is a kids' club run by the Hotel Meridian Dona Filipa. Children can
have the time of their lives at the resort's Penguin Village where there are indoor games, a pool,
sandpit, bouncy castles, videos, crazy golf … and lots more. All this goes on under the
supervision of expertly trained staff, so that parents can enjoy some of their precious leisure hours
alone in complete peace of mind. For teenagers, seek out the vibrant nightlife and disco scene centres
on the resort's praça, on the cliff tops overlooking the beach.
What water sports are available?
For those who like to get wet, water skiing and windsurfing are available during high
season. If your interest is in marine life, deep-sea fishing and scuba diving may be of more interest
to you. Drier alternatives are sailing or the mini cruises that follow the coastline. In a nutshell,
just about every kind of water sport is available and, if you prefer a woodland setting, the lake at
Quinta do Lago has a dedicated watersports centre.
Is there a health club in the resort?
Barringtons Health Spa is a total sport, health, fitness and
leisure complex that measures up to the most luxurious and well-equipped facilities in Europe.
Everything that you would expect from a top class health and leisure club is here – gym and
circuits, swimming and aqua classes, sauna and jacuzzi, studio workouts and squash, as well as a range
of outdoor sporting activities - and there is also a Golf Club attached to the centre. Barringtons
offer a vast range of beauty treatments and therapies and you can also eat and be entertained there.
Where can I try some local dishes?
All the resorts are well represented for traditional Portuguese eating houses but you may
wish to try the long established settlement of Almancil for a meal or two during your stay in
the Algarve. A great place for barbecue chicken (Plain or with Piri Piri
flavour) or fresh fish of the day - at Portuguese style prices- is “Churrasquiera de
Almancil” which is in Almancil on the main road to Loulé (take
the turning at the traffic lights) about 800 metres after the Police Station (GNR). Alternatively, you
could pay a visit to another of Almancil’s local style restaurants, opposite the Post Office
– look out for the sign “Nosso Café”.
