Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca - village to villas
Playa Blanca villas are among the best on Lanzarote. Originally a small fishing village, the Playa Blanca resort is the most recent development on the island. The design and construction of villas, apartments and hotels in Playa Blanca is indicative of an environmentally sympathetic approach to tourism in Lanzarote.
Thanks to people like local artist, César Manrique, many of the low-rise apartments and holiday villas have been designed to blend in with the original whitewashed dwellings characteristic of quaint rural settlements like Yaiza. Sun-hat can offer you a wide choice of places to stay in Lanzarote - holiday villas with pools, smart apartments in well-kept grounds, hotel accommodation of a high standard - and all are exceptionally good value.
A precious environment
Great beaches and glorious weather makes Playa Blanca an ideal choice for a Lanzarote villa holiday but the sparse, arid beauty and the geology of the island has also granted this holiday destination the title of World Biosphere Reserve. The central beach has been awarded the prestigious "Blue Flag", further testament to the unspoilt and unpolluted nature of the resort. All good news for the holiday-maker, who gets a holiday villa in the sun - with clean beaches and dramatic landscapes.
Family favourite
The fine sand of Playa Blanca - the "White Beach" - holds a certain attraction for all the family. There is more than one to choose from in the resort itself, the natural beach and the newer, manmade addition, which was conceived with families and water sports fans in mind. Further along the coast, Playa Flamingo is known for being particularly child-friendly and the Dourada beach is only a few minutes walk along the promenade from the picture postcard harbour.
If you prefer to set sail, you can board a schooner and investigate the celebrated series of beaches at Papagayo or the beautiful Parrot beaches. All variations of ocean adventure are available - from a submarine sea life exploration to a glorious day on a catamaran. Kids love the "pirate ship" experience and you can board the ferry bound for Fuerteventura from the harbour or even rent a yacht - most marine excursions are available from Playa Blanca and also the nearby resort of Puerto del Carmen.
See the island
If your idea of holiday relaxation is to do a bit of exploring, you can hire a car or, if you are feeling energetic, rent a bicycle. You can also look at Lanzarote from a bird's eye perspective, by taking a sky tour. A flying excursion gives a really amazing view of the island's fascinating and contrasting geographical features. Some people choose to climb Montaña Roja for the majestic red mountain backdrop, and the spectacular views they gain in return for their effort.
Shopping, eating and entertainment
The shopping area near the harbour is pedestrian only and the shops and facilities fresh and modern. There are bars and cafés along the promenade; you will also find good restaurants where you can eat heartily from both Canarian and International menus. Fish lovers have a good selection but there are plenty of other dishes to choose from. If you get homesick, "pub grub" or a good old Full English Breakfast is served in several of the resort's eating houses.
The purpose-built shopping centre is called Punta Limones and offers a good selection of shops. There are karaoke bars and opportunities for live music in the shopping centre, but if you want to let your hair down, Puerto del Carmen is better known for nightlife.
