The Algarve Quinta do Lago frequently asked questions

Can I arrange a villa and golf separately for a planned golfing holiday?

In Quinta do Lago, villas and golfing holidays go hand in hand, but you don't have to book a package. At Sun-hat, we can arrange your villa and you can book with the Quinta do Lago Golf Course directly or, to qualify for discounts, through a local company we can recommend. Please feel free to contact us, if you would like to discuss this option.

Villa Bella view I am keen on wildlife and birdwatching; is Quinta do Lago for me?

Absolutely! There are over two hundred species of birds in the 1840 hectares of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve, including hides for the avid birdwatcher. Thanks to the work of conservationists in the area, some species have been saved from extinction and others are still protected on the rare and endangered list. The area covered by the reserve includes many different habitats from freshwater estuary to sand dunes, making it home to a variety of resident and migratory birds, including the elegant pink Flamingo, the Red Crested Pochard and the Kentish Plover.

The park's two nature trails are great for walking, or you can hire a bicycle if you prefer. There are plenty of indigenous animals, reptiles and insects to see, including the chameleon, the marsh frog and the terrapin. A nature guide is available to help you make the most of your visit.

Algarve scenery What kind of plant life grows in the area?

The area is blessed by contrasting soil types and the natural and manmade landscapes. You will see pine trees, palm trees and some species of shrub that grow much further north - such as heather and broom - although varieties are dictated by the warm Algarve climate.

Quinta do Lago also has 700 species of exotic flowers to enjoy, as well as the natural vegetation of the sand dunes and wetlands. Public areas, luxury villa gardens and hotel grounds have been extravagantly landscaped to provide colour - from the deep pink of the bougainvillea to the sunshine yellow of the mimosa.

Where can I go horseriding?

You have a choice. There is the Quinta do Lago Riding Centre, but there are several other equestrian centres nearby. They cater for all abilities and you can have a lesson or go trekking under the supervision of a qualified instructor. If you enjoy riding, the latter is a very pleasant way to see the countryside. Some schools also hold dressage and show jumping events.
