Vale do Lobo - Villas, golf, beaches restaurants and entertainment
Vale do Lobo villas have been built with a keen eye on preserving the natural charm of the area. Several decades after the first holiday villa appeared, the resort now boasts all the attributes of a luxury holiday destination. It is a well-established beach, water sports and golf holiday haven, renowned for its sophistication - but also for its unspoilt environment.
Vale do Lobo villas and apartments remain among the best in Europe, because they have been built to a high standard for people who enjoy the best things in life.
Vale do Lobo (Valley of the Wolf)
The resort was founded in the mid 1960s by a British businessman, whilst out riding through this unspoilt pine forest to the wide golden sandy beach.
The gentleman concerned, a Mr. Costain, decided this was the ideal place to build a golf course with luxury holiday villas, townhouses, and sports centres. So he did.
Today Vale do Lobo has really come of age, but with development has come a sensitivity to the idyllic environment that provides its own distinctive character and magic. Little wonder that the area attracts its fair share of stars and celebrities. There are two 18-hole golf courses, the Ocean and the Royal; the Tennis Academy, and the "Praca" (square) with its smart al fresco cafés, bars, restaurants, and live music. There is even a supermarket in the resort for the more practical necessities.
Relax in your own style
The resort is security patrolled, so you will feel quite at ease allowing your teenagers the freedom to walk to the beach or explore the range of facilities contained in this sophisticated resort. For younger children, there's the Penguin Club, a professionally managed kids' club which entertains your little ones in style when you want some time to yourself. All the essentials for a quiet relaxing holiday, with plenty of activities - if you want it.
The high standard of villa accommodation means that you may wish to spend most of your time relaxing by the pool but, if you have the energy and inclination, you can choose to devote some of your holiday to golf, beach and watersports or keep in shape and be pampered at the famous health club for which the resort is well known. If shopping is your passion, there is an exclusive collection of shops and boutiques to surprise and delight you - and the myriad of café bars will ensure that you don't lack refreshment as you shop.
The villages of Almancil and Loule are 5 and 10 kms distant and Quinta do Lago and Dunas Dourados are even closer. The Algarve has much to see, if you like to get around on holiday, so if you think you will want to go exploring, you can hire a car relatively inexpensively.
Eating in or out
There is a wide variety of restaurants serving everything from simple but tasty local fare to the sophisticated menu of a more international cuisine. We all have our favourite eating places, so recommendation is not easy, especially when there is such a good selection and also in the nearby resorts of Almancil, Carvoeiro and Vilamoura. However, there are several restaurants just a short walk from the beach, such as Maria's and the restaurant called Julia's is actually on the cliff looking over the beach. If you want a trip to Silves, the capital of the Algarve in Moorish times, you might like to try Rui, a restaurant located at the entrance to the old walled city, or the original Rui which is inside the city - but be prepared to walk around a while looking for it.
If you enjoy fish, you will be in your element anywhere in the Algarve and you might like to try buying some fresh from the market and cooking it yourself. Local fish dishes include a variety of fish stews and chowders; all holiday villas available through Sun-hat have kitchen facilities ranging from the well appointed to the luxurious and most have barbecues. Locally caught sardines and other more exotic species of fish and seafood are all abundant in the Algarve and you will also find a good selection of fresh fruit, vegetables and local wines to complete your meal.
