Covid19 Information and FAQs

 

Throughout this difficult period, we have experienced incredible understanding from our villa owners and customers and would like to pay tribute you and thank you for your patience.

Many of our 2020 bookings decided to travel to the Algarve mainly because it is one of the safest places, and those who didn’t feel comfortable cancelled and were re-booked for 2021 

What is Travel Restrictions Assurance?

If you have doubts about 2020, you will be especially pleased to hear our new travel restrictions assurance (TRA) is available with every new booking from 1st November until 28th February.

Now you can book with us knowing we will move your dates, or offer you a Credit Voucher if your dates of travel are affected by FCDO/local government advice at home, or in your destination country.      

The TRA protects your payment to us for travel restrictions, but you would still need to purchase a travel insurance policy to protect you against cancellation, medical expenses, loss or theft of possessions, personal liability etc.

How safe are the Villas? Clean & Safe

All of our Algarve properties are cleaned to the safety and hygiene rules as recommended by the Direção-Geral da Saúde’ (the Portuguese health authorities).

Maid cleaning service will be done with maids in PPE and customers would be expected to move to the pool and garden area whilst cleaning is done

The deep cleaning and disinfecting protocols will place additional stresses on cleaning schedules and these may vary from those advertised.

 

Health and safety is our number one priority, whether that’s our customers, staff, or suppliers. Our teams both in the UK, and Overseas are working with distancing measures in our office or from home.

In view of the deep cleaning and disinfection there will be no access to properties before 4.00pm including to drop luggage. Late Check-outs after 10:00am will not be possible

 

What would happen if Travel Restrictions are in place when my balance is due 10 weeks before my rental start date?

We fully expect villa holidays will go ahead in 2021, however, if there are travel restrictions in place 10 weeks before travel, we would defer you balance due date to 6 weeks before travel.

At 6 weeks before travel you would need to decide between:

 

  1. a) Travelling with restrictions in place, this would need to be confirmed in writing, at which time they would be waiving the Travel Restrictions Assurance and a voucher would not be available after this date; or,
  2. b) Taking a Credit Voucher for the full value of the payment valid until end 2022 or cancelling and re-booking to a confirmed later date using your deposit monies already on account with the owner.

Confirm your booking

You can confirm your new 2021 booking with us using the Credit Voucher, and there is a second deposit payable in January.

Other FAQS

The credit voucher allows you to use all funds paid towards another booking in the same villa on an alternative date, subject to availability. The price for your booking will be calculated at the prevailing rate for those dates.

If you have paid the balance and we have moved your dates to later this year or next year, having the funds gives the owners certainty that the holiday will go ahead for the re-scheduled dates.

In most cases we are dealing with one owner and one property, so therefore it would not be possible. However, there may be an exception to this, and you should speak with us about it if the time comes.

For most 2020 arrivals we have been able to agree moves for the vast majority of our bookings as owners do understand the situation. However, all re-scheduling of holiday bookings is at the discretion of the owner, and of course rely on you being able to plan in advance. We have flexible credit voucher scheme in place, or if you prefer, we can provide a cancellation invoice to make a claim on your insurance.

Sun-hat Villas & Resorts acts as a named agent for the owner of villas, apartments and hotels, and on receipt of payments these are sent to the property owner to confirm the booking, and hence we no longer have the funds.

In our main destination of Portugal there have been far fewer cases of Covid 19 than other European countries. There are currently physical distancing measures in place and face masks are worn in supermarkets. Local staff including cleaning staff are using PPE with an apron mask and gloves.
