A large main aquarium, holding 5 million litres of seawater. Four marine habitats create the illusion of a single aquarium and a sole ocean. This exhibition features terrestrial and marine ecosystems, as well as the temperate, tropical and cold waters of the Earth’s oceans.

The Lisbon Oceanarium, situated in Parque das Nações, Portugal, is a remarkable marine facility that stands out as one of the largest indoor aquariums in Europe. Designed by architect Peter Chermayeff, this iconic structure opened its doors to the public in 1998 during the Expo 98 world exhibition. The Oceanarium is distinguished by its innovative design, featuring a massive central tank that houses an impressive variety of marine species, including sharks, rays, and diverse schools of fish. The tank's transparent acrylic walls provide visitors with an immersive and panoramic view of the underwater world. Divided into four distinct ecosystems, representing the Antarctic, the Atlantic, the Pacific, and the Indian Oceans, the Oceanarium offers a unique and educational experience, allowing visitors to explore the diverse marine life of different regions. With its commitment to conservation, education, and research, the Lisbon Oceanarium serves as a captivating and informative destination for individuals of all ages, contributing to the awareness and appreciation of the world's oceans and their ecosystems.
