Marking the start of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, Praia do Ancão extends over two kilometres. With a backdrop provided by the pine trees and vegetation of the Anoa Valley and bordered by a magnificent dune landscape this a very popular setting for all types of holiday makers.

To get to the beach you can walk along wooden boardwalks, which have been built to protect the delicate sand dune landscape. The soft, light sand on Praia do Ancão is home to various exclusive lounging areas. Deluxe sun beds provide plenty of space to relax and some even have blinds for yet more privacy.

The water is refreshing and crystal-clear, and the wind is usually relatively light in peak season. During the day you can let off steam trying out the various water sports on offer, which range from banana boating, water skiing, wakeboarding and stand up paddle boarding to kayaking and snorkelling. You can also pass the time playing beach volleyball on Praia do Ancão.

This is an exceptionally clean and well-kept beach with high end dining at the likes of 2 Passos and Parilla on the Beach available nearby. However this does come at a price. You'll need to dig slightly deeper into your pockets to enjoy many of the facilities at this sophisticated get away.
