What we are doing to help sustainability
Here at Sun-hat we are joining in the global effort in fighting climate change and making the travel industry more sustainable in a number of ways. We have put together our own policies which as a responsible travel operator we follow with the aim of making travel a much more sustainable industry, not only for the planet but also the many people involved on a day to day basis.
OFFSETTING
OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
Print Marketing
When it comes to our print marketing, we only use suppliers that provide stock from sustainable sources certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council).
Booking Folder Packs
Since 2021 our customer folder packs are now fully recyclable and are provided from sustainable sources in partnership with such schemes as Woodland Trust Carbon Capture project and the World Land Trust.
Both schemes counter balance the carbon footprint of paper by planting new trees, forming new areas of woodland in the UK and around the world in order to create a haven for wildlife and with an overall aim of removing Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere, helping to reduce our carbon footprint.
Brochures
Our printed mini brochures are small, feature only a selection of villas and are fully recyclable. We only send them out once every 6 - 12 months to help keep our impact on the environment down.
Customers can also opt out of receiving our printed brochure and instead receive a digital version by email which is viewable online. The digital copy is produced alongside our printed copy.
Working with our suppliers
We only work with suppliers that source print stock from renewable sources and our main suppliers work in partnership with the the Woodland Trust's Carbon Capture Project and the World Land Trust.
In 2021 the Woodland Trust Carbon Capture project certificated that Sun-hat Villas & Resorts has created 4.97m2 of native Woodland in the UK removing 199kg of Carbon Dioxide from the Atmosphere.
In 2022 and 2023 the World Land Trust project certified that Sun-hat Villas & Resorts helped protect 84m2 of critically threatened tropical rainforest and helped remove 444kg of Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere.

CYCLE
TO WORK SCHEME
Green Commuting
In March 2022 Sun-hat Villas signed up to the cycle to work scheme as an incentive for our employees to choose to leave the car at home and cycle to work instead. The scheme is an employee benefit that saves between 25-39% on a bike and accessories.
Many of our UK based office employees have already taken up the oportunity and as a result are already living a much healthier life with the added bonus of being kinder to the environment and reducing our carbon footprint at the same time.

THE GLASGOW
DECLARATION
In November 2021 Sun-hat Villas signed a pledge to support the international effort to reduce carbon emissions by supporting the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. We pledge to do this by not only reducing and offsetting our own carbon footprint but also helping our customers to do the same. We also pledge to raise awareness of environmental sustainability by communicating our future goals and successes.
Our website has been updated with educational content to help raise awareness of simple ways to be more environmentaly friendly while on holiday. There's also a fun quiz for the whole family to do. Find out more.
