Making inventive use of part of the underground car park at the Albufeira marina, Hot Wheels Raceway has created a new and exciting activity that is open all year. It is not only good for escaping the fierce heat of summer it is also a welcome addition to the range of things to do in wet weather.
The Hot Wheels track claims to be the fastest in the Algarve and with 12 corners and a long straight for overtaking, it’s hard to argue. It’s a quick, low-cost adrenaline fix designed to bring out the competitive streak in everybody. You negotiate the 400m track in 200cc karts with 4-stroke engines, all of which is carefully maintained by the in-house full-time mechanic to ensure top-quality safety and performance. 160cc junior kart are also available.
Although unsuitable for the very young, Hot Wheels is very popular with families with older children looking for some excitement. No experience is required as each driver is briefed on track safety, track rules, flag meanings and important information about the karts by qualified instructors.
Hot Wheels has added little touches making your racing experience that bit extra special. The drivers coming in the top three places head to a podium in the centre of the track for a grand podium photo and the winner is presented with a celebratory bottle of champagne.
In addition to the track itself, there’s a spectator viewing area, a snack bar, pool tables and a games machine for when you are waiting for your turn to drive. Also free karting is offered to anyone who beats the best lap time (ask for details).
