Penina literally set the Algarve ball rolling in 1966 and is a truly class act. Also known as The Sir Henry Cotton Championship Course, after its designer, Penina is the first 18 hole course to have been constructed in the Algarve. A classic British parkland layout which has been a firm favourite for UK visitors, this course provides a challenge for even the most proficient golfer.

The 18-hole par 72 features a range of streams, ditches and water hazards throughout. Its length and beautiful woodland areas that can cause serious problems. Precisely executed shots are needed to circumvent the bundles of strategically-placed bunkers and around 4,000 trees to avoid trouble.

The course is beautifully maintained, winding past tall stands of eucalyptus and clumps of palm to mainly elevated greens which have subtle slopes and sometimes treacherous speeds. Between the mature trees and speedy green par is well protected so expect some of the finest and most challenging golf in the world.
