Praia de Vilamoura is set between the Marina to the west and Quarteira harbour to the east. It is relatively developed although not quite to the scale of Quarteira next door. Praia de Vilamoura offers soft golden sands, clean sea waters and excellent facilities for tourists. As the beach is the closest to the many of hotel complexes it can get very busy in the summer season.
There are all sorts of water sports available from Praia de Vilamoura and the end nearest the marina is now part of Purobeach Vilamoura. Purobeach offers VIP beach time, with exotic decoration, 'hangover beds' and decadent ‘nomad beds’, plus Tai Chi classes and massage area.
The Praia de Vilamoura is semi-sheltered from the powerful waves and currents of the Atlantic Ocean by a sea groyne that extends from the harbour mouth. Therefore, the waters are calm, safe and suitable for children to bath and splash around in.
Vilamoura is a Blue Flag beach and is easily reachable with plenty of level access. As well as all the beach front bars, cafes and restaurant there is also a lifeguard service in the summer months cementing it as a good choice for families.
The programme of activities at Praia de Vilamoura doesn't stop when the sun goes down. In the evenings music is laid on in the chic beach bars and there are regular events where you can party into the small hours.
