A visit to the Adega do Cantor or ‘Winery of the Singer’ in Guia is highly recommended as something different to do while in the area. It was built to produce wine, principally Sir Cliff Richard’s award winning Vida and Onda Nova, from three surrounding farms, Quinta do Moinho, Quinta do Miradouro and Vale do Sobreiro.

Tours take about an hour leaving ample time to ask questions and find out more. The tour guides are extremely knowledgeable. They effortlessly and entertainingly teaching visitors the history of the estate and the background of the grape varieties, soil, climate, production methods and the wines themselves. You really get an understanding of the land and the traditions of wine-making, alongside which modern technologies goes into making of each bottle of wine.

Their cellar door shop sells the full range of Vida Nova wines as well as a variety of wine merchandise and souvenirs. If you like what you have tasted they also offer a mail order service that will deliver directly to your door.

There are several tour times throughout the day, depending on the time of year and availability. Also transport is available from pick up points at hotels and local resorts. Kids under 18 are welcome to go on the tour but, unfortunately for them, they cannot try the goods.
