Praia dos Pescadores or the ‘Fishermans Beach’ is a blue flag beach just in front of the old town district of Albufeira. Much of the resort is situated at the top of steep cliffs where escalators, a lift and a tunnel are provided to help you descend to the spacious sandy beaches without a problem.

In the days before Albufeira had a harbour and marina the Praia dos Pescadores was where all the local fishermen operated from. The beach scene would have been very different to the site you see today. Then Praia dos Pescadores would have been full of brightly painted fishing boats pulled up on this beach. There are still a few colourful fishing boats dotted around the beach but it is now the haven of sun seekers. One nod to the town's fishing heritage is the number of seafood restaurants along the beachfront.

Praia dos Pescadores is bordered by crumbling yellowish cliffs dropping away steeply into the water and its sand has a reddish glow. The gentle slope down into the calm water makes the town beaches at Albufeira an ideal family holiday destination. You can hire pedal boats and canoes for exploring the bay on the water, have a go at stand up paddle boarding or have fun on the water playground. If you're feeling even more energetic you can go for a ride on a jet ski or a banana boat.
