The Gale Oeste beach is a long stretch of golden sand with a backdrop of soft dunes. The dunes are protected by a wooden walkway that leads all the way from the car park. The long approach is wheelchair accessible and special dune buggies are available to help bring elderly or disabled visitors to the beach. Before you get onto the beach, the path leads you past a really fantastic beach bar, with small snacks, delicious drinks and a welcoming terrace.

The sea is quite shallow with natural pools forming between the rocks making this part of the beach especially suitable for families with young children. There are a few sun loungers shaded with beach umbrellas available to hire, however the majority of visitors lie on the fine, soft sand and bring their own sunshade with them. Lifeguards patrol the beach in the summer months and the bathing conditions are good, but water sports play no great role here. If you want more action on the beach and in the sea, you should carry on to the neighbouring beach, Praia da Galé Leste.
