Villa Specialist Anne's Algarve Escape: Discovering Dunas Douradas, fine wines and sunset cocktails

As Villa Specialists, we're always looking for new experiences and hidden gems to share with our guests. Recently, I enjoyed a wonderful holiday in Dunas Douradas with my daughter, and it reminded me exactly why this part of the Algarve remains one of our most-loved destinations.

A perfect time to visit

Early summer proved to be the ideal time to visit. The weather was beautifully warm without being too hot, the beaches were wonderfully peaceful, and there was a relaxed but still buzzy atmosphere throughout the resort and surrounding areas.

A day to remember at Quinta da Tôr

One of the highlights of our trip was a full-day wine tour at Quinta da Tôr, located just a short drive from Dunas Douradas.

The experience included a fascinating tour of the winery and wine cellar, where we learned all about the wine-making process, from grape to bottle. We then enjoyed a leisurely tasting session accompanied by delicious tapas.

My personal favourite was the rosé, which was crisp, refreshing and perfect for a sunny Algarve afternoon. My daughter had a different favourite - freshly baked bread dipped in local olive oil, which she declared was just as memorable as the wine itself!

The winery also features a stunning infinity pool overlooking the surrounding countryside, making it a beautiful place to spend a relaxing day. It's approximately 20 minutes from Dunas Douradas, and getting there couldn't be easier. An Uber costs around €17 each way.

Staying at Apartment Jacinda

The first part of our 11 day adventure was at Apartment Jacinda, which immediately impressed us with its contemporary design and spacious layout.

The standout feature for me was undoubtedly the fabulous roof terrace - the perfect spot for morning coffee or evening drinks while soaking up the Algarve sunshine. Inside, the apartment felt bright, stylish and welcoming.

The master bedroom was particularly impressive, featuring an enormous, exceptionally comfortable bed and a wonderful walk-in shower. It was the sort of bed you never wanted to leave in the morning!

Jasmine Villa - A home you never want to leave

For the second part of our holiday, we stayed at at Jasmine Villa and if I'm honest, I could easily have stayed there for another seven nights.

The villa is incredibly comfortable and spacious, making it ideal for families or small groups. The private pool was a real luxury, and the location couldn't have been more convenient.

One of the things I loved most was being able to walk everywhere. The beach, restaurants and local amenities are all within easy walking distance, making it possible to enjoy a completely car-free holiday.

Dining favourites

One restaurant that deserves a special mention is Lobos, conveniently located near the Dunas Douradas reception area.

The food was excellent, the service was outstanding, and every meal felt relaxed and enjoyable. It quickly became one of our favourite places to dine during the trip.

We also enjoyed spending time in nearby Vale do Lobo. It's incredibly easy to reach from Dunas Douradas, and we loved the laid-back atmosphere at the Praça. The live music, relaxed vibe and beautiful surroundings created the perfect Algarve evening.

My favourite moment of the entire holiday? Sipping cocktails on the rooftop terrace overlooking the Praça as the sun began to set. It was one of those unforgettable Algarve moments that stays with you long after you've returned home.
